It must be mentioned that besides phacoemulsification which is the preferred method for cataract removal, Dr. Rajan Shonek is equally adept at SICS (small incision cataract surgery) and ECCE (extracapsular cataract surgery). Even though only a small percentage of patients require SICS and ECCE, nevertheless extreme age, unhealthy corneas, weak zonules and hard cataracts warrant other procedures besides phacoemulsification. It is this small segment of patients that are not put to undue risk since the safest procedure is chosen for them.
