Rama Atray memorial Eye Hospital was established in the year 2001, in the fond memory of Late Smt. Rama Atray , mother-in-law of Dr. Rajan Shonek, the founder Director of the hospital. Over the years, the hospital has earned the enviable reputation of being one of the most professional and transparent institutions, providing quality eye care at an affordable cost, with responsibility and accountability.

The Hospital, located in a serene area of Deelwal, very close to Urban Estate (Phase 1), is easily accessible and spacious. We pride ourselves in ensuring that the Hospital is spotlessly clean, and comfortable for the patient. There are two waiting rooms in the hospital, besides a spacious lobby , and can easily accommodate over fifty people at any given time. We have an intricate filing system , and all patient records are kept safely in a “Record Room” specially constructed for this purpose. We ensure that the patient does not have to worry about the previous records, since a detailed, duplicate file is kept in the Hospital. The clinical record, not only helps the patient; it makes correlation with the present problem easier, and the patient can be better managed. We also note time of arrival of the patient, and an extensive public address system makes it easy to call the patient in the correct chronological order.

Dr. Rajan Shonek has a brilliant track record to his credit. He graduated from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, where the foundation of strict discipline, honesty, and professionalism was laid down, in addition to a high standard of medical education. This was followed by Post graduation (M.S. Ophthalmology) from PGIMER, Chandigarh, one of the premier Institutes of the country. The final feather in his cap was a two –year Super Specialist fellowship in comprehensive ophthalmology from L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad.

Armed with sound diagnostic and surgical skills, he worked in the capacity of Chief Corneal Surgeon at some of the best Corneal Transplantation Centers in the country, and further enriched and honed his skills.

TO DATE, HE POSSESSES OVER 20 YEARS OF POST-GRADUATE EXPERIENCE, HAVING PERFORMED AN IMPRESSIVE VARIETY OF OCULAR SURGERIES WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF EXPERTISE.

In recognition of the rich experience and professional, modern approach of Dr. Rajan Shonek as a competent and qualified Corneal Surgeon, the Eye Bank Association of India (EBAI) has accepted this hospital as an Institutional Life Member (Membership No. NL -105). This privilege is enjoyed by only a handful of Eye hospitals in Punjab, and is a pre–requisite for any Centre that plans to perform corneal surgeries.

Mr Arif Zafar has been an integral part of the hospital since its inception. His untiring efforts, dedication and hard work has played a major role in the success of this hospital, and has won him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, subordinates as well as patients. Presently, he works in the capacity of Consultant Optometrist, and handles all the investigations, refractions, and OPD procedures. He possesses over 18 years of experience as a qualified Optometrist. He did his Post- graduation from Jaipur, followed by Diploma in Optometry as well FCLC from the same city. Subsequently, he has worked in some of the best eye institutes of the country including A.B. Eye Institute , Patna (1997-98), Patna Medical College (1998-2000), and Alakh Nayan Mandir (2000-2001). He joined Rama Atray Memorial Eye Hospital in 2001, when it was inaugurated.
